Katsushika Hokusai, commonly known as Hokusai, was a renowned Japanese artist, ukiyo-e painter, and printmaker from the Edo period. Born in Edo (modern-day Tokyo), Hokusai gained fame for his woodblock print series "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" (富嶽三十六景, Fugaku Sanjūroku-kei, circa 1831). This series features the internationally iconic print "The Great Wave off Kanagawa."
